Westminster Abbey, is a large, mainly Gothic abbey church in the City of Westminster, London, England, just to the west of the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament, Big Ben). In addition to serving as a site for royal coronations and burials, Westminster Abbey has famously been the location for 17 royal weddings, including the 2011 marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.
With over a thousand years of history, this royal church is now a World Heritage Site. Benedictine monks founded Westminster Abbey in 960AD. Since 1066, 39 monarchs have been crowned in the Abbey. King Charles III will be the 40th reigning monarch to be crowned in May 2023.
