As with the UK’s other national galleries and museums, there is no admission charge for access to the collection displays, but tickets must be purchased for the major temporary exhibitions.
I went to the big Picasso retrospective at the Tate in the sixties, and I think I went to an Andy Warhol retrospective at the Tate in the sixties, too. My mother was very good at taking me to things like that. We lived in Reading, but we went on these cultural trips to London.

How long does it take to walk through?
Allow 3-4 hours for your visit, possibly much longer if you really love your art!
I am old enough to remember the enormous fight over Tate Modern. It is such a part of our cultural landscape now, we forget the opposition to it.
