London’s Chinese New Year
Worlds Largest Chinese New Year Celebrations outside of Asia
Although this event falls on the 31st, the largest UK celebration of the Chinese New Year happens in London on the 2nd. Organised by the London Chinatown Chinese Association, and with support from the Mayor of London and Westminster City Council, this event brings in the New Year of the Horse in great style.
London’s Chinese New Year will see performances from all over the world gather across London. If this video of last years event is anything to go by, this year’s event will be truly amazing.
What’s on at London’s Chinese New Year
Trafalgar Square is the place for the starting parade. At 10am, music, dragons and fire shows will descend on the square.
At noon, it has been confirmed that the Chen Brothers Flying Lion Dance is returning. They will be starting the music, acrobatics, martial arts, and magic portion of the Chinese New Year events. Virtually all of these performances are free, meaning that you and your family and friends can have a great day out with money to spare…
…that is, unless you decide to visit the stalls. London’s Chinese New Year offers a stunning range of market stalls, serving delicacies from China as well as beautiful ornaments to buy.
It’s not just Trafalgar Square where all of the activity is happening. Shaftesbury Avenue is also hosting amazing events, from local community groups and schools. A short walk or car ride away, this is the ideal place to go to see the full range of activity that London can do.
The day is to end with a fireworks display, likely at 5.40pm. This fireworks display is sure to be breathtaking, lighting up the skies of London. If you missed the New Years London celebrations, this would be a great chance to see everything that London can do in the skies. This will be a great end to an already amazing day in London.
