Sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, the Six Nations is one of the premier events in the rugby calendar. As per its name, six nations compete in this prodigious tournament; France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England.
In 2015, the opening fixture will be between Wales and England on the 6th of February. England are already firm favourites to win with most bookies, having finished second in 2014’s tournament.
There are many trophies up for grabs during Six Nations. The main trophy to win, and the one which all teams have their eyes on, is the Championship Trophy. Made of sterling silver, in 2014 the Championship Trophy went to Ireland, who won against France in the final match, and then won the whole tournament based on point differences.
England, however, can take solace in being the owners of the Triple Crown, a trophy awarded to the home nation team who beats all the other teams of the home nations (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales). This made 2014 the first year where the Triple Crown was won by a team other than the winners of the championship title.
England also had Mike Brown crowned as the player of the year, securing over 34% of a public vote and narrowly beating Brian O’Driscoll of the Ireland team.
It was a big shock to many in the Irish press that O’Discoll was not named player of the year, as 2014 will also be his last Six Nations. The Irish star has decided to retire at the end of the 2014 season.
Each one of the six teams have their own stadium for matches, with England home matches, of course, taking place at Twickenham Stadium. Situated in Richmond upon Thames, the underground is sure to be busy during any match game as England fans travel to be at the heart of the excitement. For peace of mind in knowing that your travel arrangements are perfectly coordinated, we recommend using our chauffeur service. We have experience in escorting many clients to the grounds and arranging tickets for the day. There is no better way to celebrate another potentially great year for England than by arriving in style.
