Bentley R Type 1954

The History of the 1954 Bentley R Type

The R Type was Bentleys second post-war model, replacing the Bentley Mark VI.

The Bentley R Type was first unveiled at the 1952 Earls Court Motor Show. 2320 R Types were built in Crewe between 1952-1955.

This particular R Type was once owned by English actor, Stanley Holloway, who received an Academy Award nomination for his performance of Alfred P. Doolittle, Eliza's father in My Fair Lady. In the film Mr Holloway sang "Get me to the church on time", which seems very apt for how the car is currently employed as a wedding car.

The R Type Continental was a sleek, aerodynamic 2 door version of the R Type. It was the first time the moniker "Continental" was used by Bentley and inspired the design of the Continental GT and Continental Flying Spur. It still is considered by many, to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
