1996 was the year Damon Hill snatched the World Championship title at the last race of the season in Suzuka, Japan. Although the Williams outclassed the Ferrari, Michael Schumacher managed four pole positions and three race wins in this 700 BHP Ferrari. He arguably drove his finest race in the torrential rain in the Spanish Grand Prix, which he won. The rain forced two-thirds of the field to retire.

Lotus 78 - The ground effect era

Colin Chapman of Lotus was responsible for many innovations in motorsport. From the Lotus 7 to this Lotus 78. The Lotus 78 was the first ever "ground effect" car, which literally sucked the car to the track. Gunnar Nilsson won the 1977 Belgian Grand Prix, and Ronnie Peterson won the 1978 South African Grand Prix in this car. The Lotus 79 that followed won Lotus the constructors and drivers championship at the hands of Mario Andretti.
