Founded by Lord Montagu, for his father
John, Second Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, father of the present Lord Montagu was the inspiration for Beaulieu's National Motor Museum. He was a motoring pioneer, and helped further the cause of the motorist.
In 1906, he wrote these prophetic words:
"What is the future of automobilism? That it will replace nearly every other kind of traction upon the surface of the earth, I have but little doubt. That it will help to solve political and social problems but at the same time create others, is equally obvious. It will affect values of land, towns and houses by a redistribution of values. Land in the country and on the outskirts of towns and villages remote from railways will become more valuable because of the greater ease of access."
