Osborne House
Osborne House was a former royal residence. Built by Queen Victoria it soon became one of her favourite homes.
The Needles and Alum Bay
Alum Bay is famous for it's multicoloured sand and is always a popular tourist attraction. The Needles stack is the island's most famous landmark. The Needles were also the home for the world's very first wireless transmission, made by Marconi in 1897 from the Royal Needles Hotel, above Alum Bay.
Cowes
Cowes is internationaly renowned for sailing, being home to the world famous Royal Yacht Squadron, which ranks amongst the world's elite yacht clubs. The town gives its name to the world's oldest regular regatta, Cowes Week, which occurs in the first week of August. Cowes also hosts powerboat races late in the summer.
Isle of Wight Festival 2007
The Isle of Wight festival has some real musical heayweights this year, with the Rolling Stones, Muse and Snow Patrol headlining this 3 day festival.
The Isle of Wight festival started in 1968, in 1970 the event blossomed into "Britain's Woodstock" thanks to Jimi Hendrix agreeing to perform. 1 million hippies tried to attend the event, with an act of parliament being introduced to ban any future festivals. In 2002 the festival made a welcome return.
