The Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House has a rich history dating back to 1728. Originally known as The Theatre Royal in Covent Garden and was later known as the Royal Opera House or Covent Garden Opera House.

Home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. After 2 previous buildings were both destroyed by fire. The current building was opened on the 15 May 1858 but much of this building was refurbished in the 1990s. The Paul Hamlyn Hall the large iron and glass structure adjacent to the main opera house building was incorporated into the main Royal Opera House complex during the 1990s redevelopment works.

The Royal Opera

The Royal Opera is an opera company resident at the Royal Opera House. It is one of two principal opera companies in London, the other being the English National Opera. The Royal Opera was originally founded in 1946 as the Covent Garden Opera Company, and known by that title until 1968. The Royal Opera shares the Royal Opera House with the Royal Ballet dance company.

The Royal Ballet

The Royal Ballet is Great Britain's most prestigious ballet company. Led by Director Monica Mason the Royal Ballet is based at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
