Saint Valentine’s Day

14th February 2009

Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to give and recieve "Valentine’s Cards", chocolates, flowers and other Valentine’s Ideas, including romantic nights out at a restaurant. Which is quite appropriate as this celebration of love came from Pope Gelasius I and his Feast of Saint Valentine.

It became quite traditional to send love notes, letters or poems to express one’s love, but it seems that nowadays people are more likely to send a Valentine’s Day Text. Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity for a wedding proposal too.

Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine’s Day is a worldwide celebration of love. A western tradition forming from the idea of romantic love which evolved from the High Middle Ages. The name “Valentine’s Day” came from the name of several martyred saints of ancient Rome. The feast of St. Valentine was first established in 496 by Pope Gelasius I, who included Valentine among those “… whose names are justly reverenced among men, but whose acts are known only to God.” The implication was that nothing was known, even then, about the lives of any of the Valentines.
