May will truly spring into life with the arrival of the Chelsea Flower Show. Other highlights include the FA Cup Final at Wembley, England v Barbarians and the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham.

May will reach a particularly poignant crescendo at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performing at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Gala.

2009 marks the 75th anniversary of the Glyndebourne Festival, which began in 1934 at the Glyndebourne Opera House in East Sussex. This special season at Glyndebourne will see productions of The Fairy Queen, Giulio Cesare, Rusalka, Falstaff, Tristan und Isolde and L’elisir d’amore.

The regular flower show is preceded by a Charity Gala Preview on Monday 18 May, the proceeds from which are supporting the RHS Campaign for School Gardening.
