Wimbledon Tennis Championships 2010
June 21 to July 4, 2010
Venue: The All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club, Wimbledon, London SW19 5AE
No other event screams “Summer is Here!”, than the Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Conjuring up images of strawberries and cream, Pimms and a little Champagne. This grass court tennis championship, is the only Grand Slam event currently played on a grass surface.
The 2010 Wimbledon Championships will be notable for the presence of a very special guest: Her Majesty the Queen will be gracing Wimbledon on 24 June, 33 years since the Queen last took her place in the Royal Box on the Centre Court.
You have to step back in time to 1936, to see the last British men’s champion, Fred Perry. His statute has finally found its permanent home, at the north-east corner of the Centre Court, opposite the Museum. British no.1 Andy Murray will be looking to secure a fitting memorial too, if he can win the men’s championships this year…
