Aside from the Henley Royal Regatta being an essential event in the Summer calendar, this years event in Oxfordshire promises to show a very strong International field of rowers. In the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games. Six of rowing’s top nations are looking to take advantage of the chance to race in Britain and train for the Regatta at the Olympic venue of Dorney Lake this summer. New Zealand, Canada, France, the Netherlands, the USA and Great Britain are expected to compete during this years Henley Royal Regatta.
Henley Regatta was first held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, except during the two World Wars. n 1851 H.R.H. Prince Albert became the Regatta’s first Royal Patron. Ever since his death, the reigning Monarch has always consented to become a Patron. This patronage means the Regatta can be called Henley Royal Regatta.
