The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree

Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree Lighting: Thursday 4 December 2008
Carols in the Square: Monday 8 December to Friday 19 December 2008 from 5pm until 9pm

For many Londoners the lighting of the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree marks the start of their Christmas celebrations. This Great British Event has since 1947 become as much of a London landmark as Nelson’s Column.

The tree is a gift from the Norwegian people, in gratitude for the assistance that Britain lent to Norway in WWII.

The lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on Thursday 4 December 2008. From Monday 8 December to Friday 19 December 2008 Trafalgar Square will see groups performing Christmas carols.
