Glorious Goodwood 2008

29th July to 2nd August 2008

The Goodwood Racecourse

Described by King Edward VII as ‘a garden party with racing tacked on’, Glorious Goodwood is a stylish horse racing meeting and a Great British Event.

Ever since King Edward VII discarded formal morning dress in favour of a linen suit and Panama hat in 1906, ‘Glorious Goodwood’ started the now, quintessential English summer ‘look’ for gentlemen. Linen suits and ‘Goodwood’ Panama hats will always be in vogue. Glorious Goodwood has always been a fashionable event for the ladies too.

This year, the racing starts tomorrow, on the 29th of July and concludes on the 2nd of August.

The Goodwood Estate

2008 marks the 10th anniversary of the inaugural Goodwood Revival. First held in 1998, the event was envisioned by the Earl of March, to celebrate the illustrious history of motorsport at Goodwood. The Goodwood Motor Circuit was developed by the the grandfather of the Earl of March, the Duke of Richmond. In it’s heyday between 1948 and 1966 the circuit stood alongside Silverstone and held Grand Prix and many other major racing events.

The Revival seeks to recreate the golden years of motorsport, with classic open wheel and historic racing with all the glamour and style of this flamboyant era. In it’s first decade the Goodwood Revival has become a favourite event for anybody with an interest in both fashion and horsepower. A great day out for all the family, and most certainly a Great British Event.
