Goodwood Revival 2010

Goodwood Revival 2010

Goodwood Revival 2010

17. 18. 19 September 2010

Venue: Goodwood

The ultimate blast from the past, the Goodwood Revival is the definitive automotive time travel experience. A chance to revel in the sights, sounds and aroma of the 1940s to the 1960s. A romantic journey to a different time, this is a historic motor sport event that is truly unique. Where else can you marvel at priceless racing cars and bikes, while surrounded by glamourous ladies and gentlemen, many dressed in the fashions of this bygone age?

Forget any preconceived notions that this is just a pretty parade or a nostalgic reverie. No, this is the real deal. The beautiful cars and bikes are driven with a passion that is almost obscene. The first time you see machines, that would otherwise be collecting dust in museums jostling for position into the first corner at Goodwood, you realise that this no pantomime or staged entertainment. As these magnificent racing machines drift and squeal by and the smoke clears you can breath again, they are all safely through.

What the owners of these machines will be going through must be indescribable. But then these are not your typical vintage car owner, storing away their investments under cotton sheets in state of the art garages and vaults. These cars and bikes were not designed for dehumidified, climate controlled coolers to be hidden away undercover in the private collections of wealthy investors. Ferrari, Chapman, Shelby and Zegato and all the other great engineers designed these vehicles for one thing only, to win. One would surely think that these automotive legends would be smiling down as they watch them being driven with such passion.

Many legends of the sport have graced Goodwood at the Revival. Names like Moss, Surtees, Brabham, Phil Hill, Bell, Coulthard, Damon Hill, Berger, Herbert, Gardner, Agostini and Sheene have all driven around this historic circuit in West Sussex.

The Goodwood Revival is not just about exotic Ferraris and luscious Lotus cars though. Sure, there are priceless Alfa Romeo, Aston Martins and Bentleys in the paddock, but they are often parked beside more affordable Fords and Austin cars, again raced with zeal by enthusiastic owners, capturing the spirit of all echelons of motor sport from the 40s through the 60s. It is not just about the racing though, mixing it up with the high octane petroleum aroma is a perfume equally as sweet.

Goodwood Fashion and Style

Fashion is always a major part of the Goodwood Revival. From the uniforms and ration books of the 40s, to the post-war Parisian styles to the 60s mini skirts many people relish the opportunity to dress up in their favourite period. Walking through Goodwood, listening to the swinging big bands, past the time locked stalls and exhibits is quite a memorable experience. Overhead the sound of Rolls-Royce Merlin powered Spitfires, Mustangs and Lancaster flying machines complete the experience. Until someone finally invents a working time travel device, this is the closest you can get to the "Golden Era" of motor sport. A truly Great British Event. Not to be missed.
