The Langham, London was completed in 1865 at a cost of £300,000 and formally opened by the Prince of Wales. At the time it was the largest and most modern hotel in London, featuring the first hydraulic lifts (elevators) in England, a hundred water closets and thirty six bathrooms. The Langham, London has enchanted royalty, dignitaries and celebrities since 1865, when it opened as Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel’.

In April 2009, major refurbishments to the hotel were completed. The Langham now has 380 rooms, a restored Palm Court, famous for serving afternoon tea since 1865, a new business centre and 15 function rooms including The Grand Ballroom which holds up to 375 guests for a reception. The hotel has a five star classification.

Notable guests include: Mark Twain, Hetty Green, Napoleon III, Oscar Wilde, Antonín Dvořák, Arturo Toscanini, Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle, Princess Diana, Noel Coward, Wallis Simpson, Don Bradman, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and Ayumi Hamasaki. In August 1889 Arthur Conan Doyle, Oscar Wilde and Joseph Marshall Stoddart met at the Langham. Stoddart commissioned the two other men to write stories for his magazine. Doyle wrote The Sign of Four and Wilde wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray.

This 312 bedroom establishment is a grand hotel in every sense of the word. The Midland is situated on Peter Street in Manchester city centre, and was built by Charles Trubshaw for the Midland Railway Company in 1898-1903. Today it is a Grade II listed building and has always been a favourite with celebrities, with the likes of Paul McCartney, The Spice Girls, The Beckhams, George Best, Tom Jones, Luciano Pavarotti, Mike Tyson, Jennifer Lopez, Prince Edward and Tony Blair all staying at this iconic hotel. The Connaught is a five star luxury hotel situated between Grosvenor Square and Berkeley Square in exclusive Mayfair, London.

Originally named The Coburg, but renamed The Connaught in 1917 after Queen Victoria’s third son, Prince Arthur, the first Duke of Connaught. Later, in 1935 the hotel was ran almost like an English private house, under the management of Rudolph Richard offering the ultimate in comfort and service.

The hotel was acquired by the Savoy Group in 1956. In March 2007 the hotel was closed for major redevelopment work and reopened in December. With further redevelopment to be finished in 2008.

Astonishingly since 1897, there have only been six general managers of The Connaught, and this has helped this fine establishment remain one of the most special places to stay while in London.
