Chauffeur, Chauffer, or Showfer?
Chauffeur, Chauffer or Showfer - how do you spell it?
If you were looking for a luxury chauffeur car hire service, what would you type into the Google search query? Would you correctly type chauffeur? or would you spell it a little differently—chauffer or showfer? According to my dictionary a chauffeur is defined as:
ORIGIN late 19th cent.(in the general sense [motorist] ): from French, literally ‘stoker’ (by association with steam engines), from chauffer ‘to heat.’
So the days of 'stokers' are over in the modern chauffeur profession— long since replaced by climate control, panoramic sunroofs and multi-cylinder engines. So maybe today's drivers need a different moniker? At iChauffeur, we are keen to keep the traditional chauffeur etiquette alive, with courteous drivers, unparalleled service and attention to detail; now where did I leave my chamois?
